Me looking brave before taking to the air (and the wing) of the plane. Wow, it was cold !! But the whole experience was totally exhilarating.

Jan's Blog

Computers and the internet are amazing things. One of my concerns with putting together this site was that it could remain current, yet with all my travelling I've often much to say, but little time to say it. Years ago when reading the news it would take me days on end to reply to the kind letters people sent. Now, with the magic of the modern age, I can keep you up to date with what I'm doing and other events in my life.

A few weeks ago I read an article about children on Airlines and the writer was definitely Anti. I hesitated to add my pennyworth for fear of upsetting the PC crowd – all about Rights without Responsibilities as far as I can see. We are supposed to live in a Country which allows us ‘Freedom of Speech’ but this is not strictly true.

Back to children on Airlines. Unless a family are moving abroad, I don’t think it is the best idea in the world to subject small babies to Air Travel (they can’t clear their ears if the pressurisation affects them and are left screaming in agony) and I don’t believe that it’s a clever idea to take babies on holiday to hot places.

But my biggest complaint is for those parents fortunate enough to be able to afford to travel First or Business Class and then subject we lesser mortals to their screaming babies/children who are packed off with the Nanny into Economy or Economy Plus. Talk about abrogating one’s responsibility.

And whilst on the subject of complaints and again I've seen articles on this subject but have not dared to say anything.

There has been a suggestion that travellers should be weighed with their luggage - but the PC brigade would be up in arms.  But tell me why, if my luggage were overweight, I have to pay extra when my luggage and my body weight together weigh less than many a passenger!!!!!!!!

ADDENDUM  - A regular viewer to my blog wrote and added something else which I too should have remembered and that is all the times I've been 'cllocked' in the face or shoulders by a passenger either with a 'backpack'  or with their 'hand luggage' slung over their shoulder oblivious to the extra dimension when they turn/move.   People are becoming less and less considerate to other passengers as well as to others in general.  My correspondent also suggested that children should not be allowed on airlines under the age of 5 - can you see the outcry if this were implemented!  Mind you, why people don't/can't control their children is beyond me.  Children have to be 'trained' to be socially acceptable and if no adult tells them the parameters how are they to know!
