Me looking brave before taking to the air (and the wing) of the plane. Wow, it was cold !! But the whole experience was totally exhilarating.

Jan's Blog

Computers and the internet are amazing things. One of my concerns with putting together this site was that it could remain current, yet with all my travelling I've often much to say, but little time to say it. Years ago when reading the news it would take me days on end to reply to the kind letters people sent. Now, with the magic of the modern age, I can keep you up to date with what I'm doing and other events in my life.

TAMBY - my darling cat

Date: 21st April 2014

Tamby has not been a well cat since last September when, after a nasty infection, it was discovered that he had an over active thyroid - a common complaint among older cats apparently.

We've persisted with the thyroid pills but the poor little chap keeps throwing up - thank goodness the carpet is oatmeal and old anyway.  (I've tried everything to get the stains out and though not totally perfect, the most effective is Ace.  I only hope they don't get bought out and the product goes off the market or gets amalgamated with something else.  Years ago you could buy about a dozen Stain Devils for everything individually felt tip pen, blood, glue, rust,  even chewing gum etc. and so forth.  Then they must have been bought out - now you get two 'does everything' bottles - which don't!)

It's come to the time where he has to have something major done - there is an operation but if the wrong part of the thyroid is taken out then the op has to be repeated putting the animal under stress.  So I've decided that, if he's a good enough candidate, he'll have to have the Iodine treatment (radiation really) which is horrendously expensive and means no summer holiday for me - but if it works I'd pay anything.  Some folk have suggested the alternative - sorry, he still has enough 'joie de vivre', love and purring and has been a wonderful companion - so, if I can help it, he isn't going to meet his maker yet awhile.
