Me looking brave before taking to the air (and the wing) of the plane. Wow, it was cold !! But the whole experience was totally exhilarating.

Jan's Blog

Computers and the internet are amazing things. One of my concerns with putting together this site was that it could remain current, yet with all my travelling I've often much to say, but little time to say it. Years ago when reading the news it would take me days on end to reply to the kind letters people sent. Now, with the magic of the modern age, I can keep you up to date with what I'm doing and other events in my life.

I have resisted this as much as possible. For one thing I dislike seeing our traditional shops closing down and, if I have a problem with a purchase, it is good to be able to relate to a person face to face. I also like to keep local tradespeople in business.

However I think I’m about to change my opinion. I recently purchased a Home-Tek 838 Steam mop which cost me £45 locally. The appliance requires Distilled water and having bought a bottle which was used up in one cleaning session I thought I’d see if there were other ways of softening water. Sure enough one can buy Softening crystals which I found on line and to my horror I saw the exact same appliance I’ve just bought priced at £18.99. Of course, one would have to pay postage but even so this would not bring the price up to anywhere near what I paid for it.

Living on a pension and with prices rising all around me, I’m afraid I’m about to become an on-line shopper. However, I will not order groceries on line - I have the time and I enjoy going to the shop and choosing my produce.
