Me looking brave before taking to the air (and the wing) of the plane. Wow, it was cold !! But the whole experience was totally exhilarating.

Jan's Blog

Computers and the internet are amazing things. One of my concerns with putting together this site was that it could remain current, yet with all my travelling I've often much to say, but little time to say it. Years ago when reading the news it would take me days on end to reply to the kind letters people sent. Now, with the magic of the modern age, I can keep you up to date with what I'm doing and other events in my life.

MEMORY LANE - Inner Wheel Conference, Telford

Date: 8th April 2014

MEMORY LANE – Conference talk at Telford

I was asked to be one of the speakers at the Inner Wheel Annual Conference in Telford – my brief was to be entertaining. On asking and being told that the average age was 50+, I reckoned that the audience would be those who would remember the stars of yesteryear whom it was my pleasure to meet and interview when I had my own Magazine programme at HTV Bristol and also when I worked on Pebble Mill at One.

I worked hard and enjoyably trawling through albums and remembering little anecdotes from decades ago – putting over 100 ‘illustrations’ into my Keynote address.

Although I really enjoy working to a live audience I always feel very tense and nervous – will they enjoy it, will it be appropriate, can I make them laugh. Fortunately apart from a couple of technical glitches – which didn’t matter because it makes you look more human – the presentation went extremely well. So well in fact that it took me a half hour to get to the Loo because of being stopped, thanked, congratulated and assured that they’d enjoyed joining me as I took them on a trip down Memory Lane.
