Me looking brave before taking to the air (and the wing) of the plane. Wow, it was cold !! But the whole experience was totally exhilarating.

Jan's Blog

Computers and the internet are amazing things. One of my concerns with putting together this site was that it could remain current, yet with all my travelling I've often much to say, but little time to say it. Years ago when reading the news it would take me days on end to reply to the kind letters people sent. Now, with the magic of the modern age, I can keep you up to date with what I'm doing and other events in my life.

INSURANCE – Shopping Around

I am basically lazy when it comes to the Internet – and I go on the assumption that ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’ – I’m loyal to companies and in the past have never shopped around for a possible ‘better deal’. Last year I tried the exercise with regard to my Car Insurance,  and after several hours of filling in endless forms on the internet there was so little difference between insurers that I stayed put. This year I was just about to write a cheque to my broker  when I thought I'd try John Lewis - a company which I consider excellent in every possible way.  When I lived in Bucks, my home was a testament to John Lewis.  Not only do they sell excellent goods at reasonable prices but their staff are, almost without exception incredibly helpful.  In all the years I've been doing business with John Lewis, I've only once experienced a salesperson who was less than helpful and one of her colleagues nearly bent over backwards to remedy the problem.

I was very upset on moving to Kent not to have a Waitrose on my doorstep.  Now we have an excellent one in Canterbury.

To my total delight I've saved over £100 on my car insurance.  And when living on a pension, with rising food and heating costs which cannot be avoided, that saving is very welcome.

I fully intend to contact John Lewis when my other insurances expire e.g. home insurance and motor breakdown cover.  Apart from anything else, it is convenient to have all one's insurances under the same roof.

My only sadness is that everything was 'done on line'.  I'm old fashioned enough to enjoy doing business with a 'real person'.

( In fact, I always pay the extra and book BA tickets through a person - I'm always worried that, if I booked on line I'd turn up at the airport and there'd not be a seat for me!)

I’ll try and get round to writing about all my fascinating Cathedral visits the week before last, but they do take time, especially loading the photos and, at the moment my Iphoto is playing up ever since a Software Update!!!

And to those of you who come into my website and keep asking the same question – NO I did not date with Dave Spinx, in fact I’ve seen none of the participants on Celebrity Come Dine with me which is now 4 years old. They must still be showing the programme somewhere because the hits on my Website went up greatly this week.

Best wishes,  Jan
