Me looking brave before taking to the air (and the wing) of the plane. Wow, it was cold !! But the whole experience was totally exhilarating.

Computers and the internet are amazing things. One of my concerns with putting together this site was that it could remain current, yet with all my travelling I've often much to say, but little time to say it. Years ago when reading the news it would take me days on end to reply to the kind letters people sent. Now, with the magic of the modern age, I can keep you up to date with what I'm doing and other events in my life.

THE INTERNET - Travelodge

Date: 12th November 2013

Very often I gripe about the Internet and all the attendant frustrations of dealing via the Web. Well, just as I feel one should speak out about a genuine grievance, so I think praise should be given when praise is due.

I was invited to a 70th Birthday Party in Portishead and booked a room with Travelodge. Sadly, due to ill health, the party has been cancelled. I’ve been delaying cancelling my booking because of all the hassle I thought I’d encounter. Nothing could have been easier. I did pay the £1.50 Insurance Fee when booking and maybe that is why the operation was so quick and trouble free.

Clicking onto the Travelodge website, I didn’t even have to enter my details, and there was my booking with Alter or Cancel. One click on Cancel and it was done. Absolutley no hassle at all and the money will be back in my account within 10 days. Ok, so they’ve had my money for a few weeks but with interest pitiable I don’t mind in the light of such a quick and easy operation.

If only all Websites were set up so well.  Some of the worst are the Government websites - recently had trouble with NS&I.  When I phoned and was dealt with by a charming Scottish lass she explained that 'they'd been having trouble with their site'!  I can remember the same some years ago with the DVLA.  What is it about these massive and highly expensive Government sites that they are often not fit for purpose? But then of course it is your money and mine which is used to set them up and there doesn't seem to be much accountability.
