Me looking brave before taking to the air (and the wing) of the plane. Wow, it was cold !! But the whole experience was totally exhilarating.

Jan's Blog

Computers and the internet are amazing things. One of my concerns with putting together this site was that it could remain current, yet with all my travelling I've often much to say, but little time to say it. Years ago when reading the news it would take me days on end to reply to the kind letters people sent. Now, with the magic of the modern age, I can keep you up to date with what I'm doing and other events in my life.

Continuing in the same vein as my previous Blog about shopping around to save money, I thought I’d try out the fixed Energy Prices because my Direct Debits have gone through the roof with both Gas and Electricity. Mind you my Boiler has just given up the ghost so I am hoping that the writing on the packet is to be believed and that my energy costs will be substantially reduced by the new Eco-friendly boiler.

Eighteen months ago I changed to M & S Energy purely because they guaranteed a Call Centre in the UK. I don’t usually give the time of day to anyone stopping me to offer deals but I happened not to be in a hurry when passing through M & S in Canterbury and was approached by a very personable young man. Actually, when we worked it out, if I joined M & S I was going to be paying just a trifle more than with my existing company,  but it was the UK Call Centre which clinched it for me.

However, every penny counts these days so once again I girded my loins and decided to take on the Call Centre. Although I was told that the exercise took 20 minutes!!!!!!!! I decided to give it a go. Most of the 20 minutes is actually the Company covering its back, front and sides. (Isn’t it sad that the American Compensation culture has taken such a hold on this side of the Atlantic and the proliferation of Ambulance Chasing Firms of Solicitors is eye watering)

Anyway, I did wade through the whole exercise with an incredibly pleasant young man and I have fixed my prices for a year and will be saving at least a couple of hundred pounds – more if my boiler lives up to its reputation.

Yes, I could have spent more time and energy phoning round more companies but, frankly, life really is too short and I’m happy with the thought that for the price of my patience I have made a few savings and dealt with a nice guy who is working, earning a living and paying tax in this country.
