Me looking brave before taking to the air (and the wing) of the plane. Wow, it was cold !! But the whole experience was totally exhilarating.

Jan's Blog

Computers and the internet are amazing things. One of my concerns with putting together this site was that it could remain current, yet with all my travelling I've often much to say, but little time to say it. Years ago when reading the news it would take me days on end to reply to the kind letters people sent. Now, with the magic of the modern age, I can keep you up to date with what I'm doing and other events in my life.

Date: 24th June 2013

There is a secret hidden away near Capel - it is The Lighthouse Inn.

I happened to have a coffee there a few weeks ago and the delightful owner, Mair Rees Davies, mentioned that she was having an Opera Evening.  I'm not heavily into Opera but love some of the more popular ones like Carmen and Aida and do enjoy many of the well known Arias.

Persuading a couple of good friends to join me, we booked and then I began to worry - what if they didn't enjoy it, what if they didn't like the menu which was set.

I worried needlessly. We had a fabulous evening and the menu, though not fancy, was delicious and served up beautifully.

Mair, an opera singer who still coaches young singers, had brought over from Italy the tenor Gugliemo Callegari (look him up on line - not only has he a fab. voice but he is drop dead gorgeous and has an equally fabulous wife!)  Mair also engaged  Kent Mezzo Soprano - Jennifer Brisk.  Mair also joined in some of the fun arias and has a lovely voice.

The evening was excellent, the singing divine and Jennifer Brisk took my breath away.  She's got a wasp like waist, is very very attractive both in looks and personality and had a voice to die for.  I think this young lady will go far.  Guigliemo was chatting away to my friends and myself and I asked if he didn't need to rest his voice - no - he was quite happy to chat to all the guests.  How delightful and unstuffy.

I really hope that these evenings will become a regular in the calendar - I shall be at the front of the queue to book.

Just to give you an idea this was the bill of fare - Habanera Carmen E Lucevan le stelle Tosca Che faro senza Euridice Gluck . Duet to di due gatti Rossini . Vesti la gubba Pagliacci . Che gelida manina La Boheme. Volare O sole Mio . Nesun Dorma Turandot.

So sorry I didn't take my camera but Mair sent me this one - the two performers, Mair and me.
