Me looking brave before taking to the air (and the wing) of the plane. Wow, it was cold !! But the whole experience was totally exhilarating.

Jan's Blog

Computers and the internet are amazing things. One of my concerns with putting together this site was that it could remain current, yet with all my travelling I've often much to say, but little time to say it. Years ago when reading the news it would take me days on end to reply to the kind letters people sent. Now, with the magic of the modern age, I can keep you up to date with what I'm doing and other events in my life.

SNOW STOPS PLAY

Date: 21st January 2013

SNOW STOPS PLAY

A variation on ‘Rain stops Play’. Should have gone to York today to film an insert for inclusion in the René Mouchotte documentary for when it airs in North Region.

Was really looking forward to the outing – staying at Middlethorpe Hall and having dinner with my friend Sue who was to join Ian Reed and myself in the filming on Tuesday. However the weather decreed otherwise.

We had snow all day yesterday – at a conservative estimate about 5 inches. The A258 is a treacherous road at one point where the snow drifts across and banks up. That coupled with the ‘interrupted’ service on Southeastern trains and I decided that it just wasn’t worth it. Isn’t it amazing that in this day and age of High Tec, the Highspeed trains which cost millions cannot operate if there’s too much snow because the conductor of the power is prevented from making the connection with the train. Well, I can’t explain it any better being a very non-technical creature but I know what I mean!

So we’ll reschedule for when the snow goes away. Meanwhile another reminder about the transmission of the programme.

SEARCHING FOR RENÉ – BBC 1 SE Region ‘Inside Out’ – 28th January 7.30pm and on BBC HD. Anyone in the UK will be able to watch on the iPlayer for 7 days immediately after broadcast. But they will also be able to watch as it is transmitted on Sky (channel 963), Freesat (channel 959) and Freeview (channel 858).

And if you can spare the time, it would be good to get some feedback on the website. I do sometimes wonder if it is worth running the site because I get so little response. Having said that, it was due to the website that Mark Chapman contacted me because his father had worked with René as an armourer. He  had contact with René’s sister through which I learned her married surname and the rest is history, so to speak.

Bye for now, Jan
