Me looking brave before taking to the air (and the wing) of the plane. Wow, it was cold !! But the whole experience was totally exhilarating.

Jan's Blog

Computers and the internet are amazing things. One of my concerns with putting together this site was that it could remain current, yet with all my travelling I've often much to say, but little time to say it. Years ago when reading the news it would take me days on end to reply to the kind letters people sent. Now, with the magic of the modern age, I can keep you up to date with what I'm doing and other events in my life.

RENÉ MOUCHOTTE - Documentary

Date: 10th January 2013

The good news is that BBC North Region are going to show the 'Mouchotte' documentary.  This is predominantly because of the involvement of Ian Reed of the Yorkshire Allied Air Forces Museum which gives the film a North regional association.  Ian gave  invaluable help in obtaining the Battle of Britain Medals  for both René Mouchotte and Henry Lafont and has been incredibly helpful and supportive through all the trials, tribulations and turn downs while I've been trying to get a documentary made.

I have to go up to York to record a short piece for insertion into the Documentary which will give justification for the film being shown up North.  With any luck it might transmit on the same date as it does down here in the South.

Of course, none of this would have happened had it not been for my best and oldest friend who lives just outside Leeds.  We met way back in the late 60's when I was a Newsreader for Granada TV in Manchester and Sue was a Production Assistant.  We shared a cottage in Sale owned by the late Pat Phoenix.  We've remained friends, are godmothers to each other's children and it was Sue who came out to support me when I took part in 'I'm a Celebrity ................ ' in 2006.  My son had just got a promotion at work and didn't feel he could ask for leave.

It was Sue who phoned me in October 2011 and said she didn't know what was going on but something to do with the French was happening in York.  It transpired that, due to Ian Reed's hard work, the Free French Bomber Crews who'd been stationed at Elvington, were finally to be given recognition and a memorial in York Minster.  I wrote to the Director - as he was to me then and told him about my work with René.  We both attended the funeral of Henry Lafont at Les Invalides in Paris and on the Eurostar coming back I regaled Ian with the story of my search - I had all the documentation with me because I'd just been filming with René's 101 year old sister.  Ian caught the baton of my enthusiasm and ran with it.

I don't think it will be changed again so the Transmission date is as follows:

SEARCHING FOR RENÉ – BBC 1 SE Region ‘Inside Out’ – 28th January 7.30pm and on BBC HD. Anyone in the UK will be able to watch on the iPlayer for 7 days immediately after broadcast. But they will also be able to watch as it is transmitted on Sky (channel 963), Freesat (channel 959) and Freeview (channel 858).

I can't wait to see it and hope you will enjoy it too.
