Me looking brave before taking to the air (and the wing) of the plane. Wow, it was cold !! But the whole experience was totally exhilarating.

Jan's Blog

Computers and the internet are amazing things. One of my concerns with putting together this site was that it could remain current, yet with all my travelling I've often much to say, but little time to say it. Years ago when reading the news it would take me days on end to reply to the kind letters people sent. Now, with the magic of the modern age, I can keep you up to date with what I'm doing and other events in my life.

MAGGIE SEMPLE - Christmas Gift

Date: 17th December 2012

MAGGIE SEMPLE – Christmas Gift

I’ve just had the most unusual and interesting Gift. Earlier in the year I met the lovely designer Maggie Semple. She asked me if I had any ‘treasures’ in my wardrobe.
From the days when I had a hectic diary and attended many evening functions, I have several designed by the likes of Gina Fratini, Roland Klein and Zandra Rhodes.

Maggie asked me for a photo of one of my favourites and I sent one of a gorgeous Gina Fratini which I would never ever discard. (It was the dress, in a different colourway, which Elizabeth Taylor wore for her second marriage to Richard Burton – a fact I only discovered recently)

Yesterday, a box plopped through the letterbox and in it was a small hardback book – the story of my beautiful dress – Semple, Behind the Seams.

Maggie and her team have put together the ‘story of my dress’ with little chapters on Gina, Colourway, Style and Shape, Then and Now, and a final chapter of Q & A with me. The book has some lovely photos particularly the one of my beautiful mother and sister and myself wearing the dress in the 70’s.

So for any chap who really doesn’t know what to buy as an unusual present for his lady, this could well fit the bill. I will forever have the story and a memory of my beautiful dress which will remain long after I am gone. And, I’m sure many a bride would like the story of her ‘Big Day’ Dress to have and to hold!  If you would like the story of a very precious member of your wardrobe contact Maggie's team -

My sister Gillian, Mummy and Moi.
