Me looking brave before taking to the air (and the wing) of the plane. Wow, it was cold !! But the whole experience was totally exhilarating.

Jan's Blog

Computers and the internet are amazing things. One of my concerns with putting together this site was that it could remain current, yet with all my travelling I've often much to say, but little time to say it. Years ago when reading the news it would take me days on end to reply to the kind letters people sent. Now, with the magic of the modern age, I can keep you up to date with what I'm doing and other events in my life.

Date: 30th November 2012

When I have a moan, I like to be fair to the people about whom I'm complaining.  The BT business came down predominantly to a very helpful but slightly ill prepared Customer Service adviser.  The very pleasant young woman did admit that she hadn't  previously 'sold a YouView package'.  They had given me a basic package which meant that I would have to pay for any films I might like to watch.  Also she didn't explain that the YouView bill of fare is very limited  in so far as films are concerned - they have a library of 200 but with 20 subtracted and 20 added regularly.  However this doesn't even begin to compare with the huge library of Lovefilm and we did have a conversation in which I declared that the increased price of BT would be partially offset by my closing my Lovefilm account.  Trouble is that I love old films, black and white and also French films and I don't think I'm going to get those choices with BT YouView.

One other problem which has not been solved and I gather it is one which many others have also encountered.  Although I rarely recorded onto DVD anything which I'd recorded through Freeview, there were the occasional programmes I wanted to keep but the facility does not appear to be available on the new Freeview box - whether this is a matter of 'Rights' or not, remains to be seen.

I usually watch what I've recorded and then delete them.  However the other day I was watching a recording of a tribute to Larry Hagman and lo and behold, yours truly popped up in the middle announcing on BBC News that JR had been shot.  For sentimental reasons I'd like to have a DVD but that appears to be impossible.  Mind you, apart from sentiment, I wouldn't want to keep it - the interviewer hardly allowed Hagman to get a word in edgeways.  He wasn't asking questions but making statements to which Larry would have been within his rights to just answer Yes or No rather like the famously monosyllabic  Robert Mitchum who in reply to a statement/question from Parky just uttered 'Yup'.

Back to the BT Freeview box etc - the new one is superior to the one I had in place but with the one drawback which appears to be the inability to record anything.
