Me looking brave before taking to the air (and the wing) of the plane. Wow, it was cold !! But the whole experience was totally exhilarating.

Jan's Blog

Computers and the internet are amazing things. One of my concerns with putting together this site was that it could remain current, yet with all my travelling I've often much to say, but little time to say it. Years ago when reading the news it would take me days on end to reply to the kind letters people sent. Now, with the magic of the modern age, I can keep you up to date with what I'm doing and other events in my life.

Date: 29th August 2012

As time is marching on just thought I’d remind you about your chance to win a flight in a two-seater Spitfire as well as a visit to the Aircraft Restoration Hangar at Duxford. This is a must for any lovers of old planes. I know how fascinating it is because the owner and MD is a friend of mine and I have had the privilege of visiting although I haven’t had a flight in a Spitfire.

The Raffle will be drawn at the Battle of Britain Dinner on 18th October at the RAF Club in London. Tickets are £5 each and I think I read that there is a limit of 10 tickets per person. Needless to say I’ve purchased the full allocation. Not only do I want the experience of a Spitfire flight but I want to understand the kind of flight which René Mouchotte would have made daily whilst he was serving with the RAF during WW2. For anyone new to my website – Mouchotte is the Free French pilot whom I sponsored on the Wall of Remembrance at Capel-le-Ferne which led me into a 5 year search for more details of his life, into a meeting with his sister who sadly has since died and to the presentation of his ‘missing’ BOB medals at the British Ambassador’s Residence in Paris on July 13th this year. I haven’t finished yet and am still trying so hard to get a Channel/Company interested in producing my documentary. I must have spent at least a 1000 hours in research etc.

Back to the Spitfire Flight Raffle. Go to the link below which will tell you more about the Memorial and on the left hand side you’ll see 2012 Raffle.

I’m not a particularly lucky person and often in the past, when attending a charity event, I’d buy some tickets, be asked to draw the raffle and would pull out my own ticket and always felt it encumbent upon me to put the prize back into the raffle. So I’m telling you here and now, if I should be lucky enough to win the Spitfire Flight – I am not putting it back!!!! You have been warned.
