Me looking brave before taking to the air (and the wing) of the plane. Wow, it was cold !! But the whole experience was totally exhilarating.

Jan's Blog

Computers and the internet are amazing things. One of my concerns with putting together this site was that it could remain current, yet with all my travelling I've often much to say, but little time to say it. Years ago when reading the news it would take me days on end to reply to the kind letters people sent. Now, with the magic of the modern age, I can keep you up to date with what I'm doing and other events in my life.

I believe that if you complain, you should also praise. Although I am sorry I had to go through all the hassle and tension of taking my grievance to the highest places, I have to say that I have had the problem dealt with in an exemplary manner.

Without wishing to make work for him, Christopher Wright (Executive Level Complaints) couldn’t have been more helpful, kind and polite. When he apologized for all the trouble I’ve had, I felt he meant it and wasn’t just reading off a ‘hymn sheet’ as do the Call Centre staff in India.

The basic problem was down to antiquated wiring (possibly going back to the 1930’s) and the fact that we are ‘tail end Charlie’ for any improvement to the BT systems down here in ‘deepest darkest Kent’.

It isn’t just BT, other big companies in their rush to either ‘keep ahead of the game’ or ‘rival the opposition’ are, in my opinion, running before they can walk. Before offering ‘Infinity’ and heaven knows what else in the Internet Stakes, you would have thought they’d upgrade the existing equipment.

Anyway I’m grateful to Chris and to the engineers, particularly Mark, and hope I don’t ever have to complain again. It’s just a shame that the house in which I have a flat was only recently decorated and now the old cabling has been taken away, there’s scarring on the walls. Ah well, I suppose I can live with that.

Just one little hint and I’m not sure if it is accurate - and hope I don’t have to try it out - but I’ve been told that when you get through to the call centre in India, you have the right to ask to be put through to a UK Call Centre.

I must admit I’d stay with any Company which had its Call Centres in the UK - though even that presents problems if you happen to get someone with a strong Scottish or Geordie accent - it’s almost like another language. That isn’t a criticism of Accents which I think actually enrich a language - it’s just that when your ear is not attuned to it, it is very difficult to comprehend added to which many of the young today speak at a very rapid rate which also makes life difficult - my own son does it so I know what I’m talking about.

Bye for now - Jan

P.S. My cat Tamby is now ‘famous’ - have had many comments about his starring role on the Loo.
