Me looking brave before taking to the air (and the wing) of the plane. Wow, it was cold !! But the whole experience was totally exhilarating.

Jan's Blog

Computers and the internet are amazing things. One of my concerns with putting together this site was that it could remain current, yet with all my travelling I've often much to say, but little time to say it. Years ago when reading the news it would take me days on end to reply to the kind letters people sent. Now, with the magic of the modern age, I can keep you up to date with what I'm doing and other events in my life.

Date: 10th May 2011

I mistakenly mentioned a trip on the Bateaux Mouches - in fact my friend had booked on the Bateaux Parisien - quite a different 'kettle of fish'.

To begin with our taxi driver took us to the right bank when we knew we had to be on the left bank and then we realised that there was a BIG difference.

I cannot speak highly enough of the trip we took on the Bateaux Parisien - it was absolutely first class. One couldn't fault the service, the cuisine, and of course the wonderful scenery. We set off at dusk and commenced our journey past most of the historic sites along the banks of the Seine. Perhaps the only disappointment was the speed at which we were traveling so that if one didn't capture the shot immediately, it was gone. However, I did arrest moments in time with lovers on the banks of the Seine as well as capturing some of the most interesting historic buildings.

I was furious to discover that towards the end of our wonderful trip, my battery gave up on me. I'd checked it time and time again and it continually registered 'full' but when we came to the end of our trip and I wished to capture the Tour Eiffel at night (when it is at its most magnificent) the battery refused to comply. Merde.
