Me looking brave before taking to the air (and the wing) of the plane. Wow, it was cold !! But the whole experience was totally exhilarating.

Jan's Blog

Computers and the internet are amazing things. One of my concerns with putting together this site was that it could remain current, yet with all my travelling I've often much to say, but little time to say it. Years ago when reading the news it would take me days on end to reply to the kind letters people sent. Now, with the magic of the modern age, I can keep you up to date with what I'm doing and other events in my life.

Date: 10th April 2011

I always now know when Celebrity Come Dine with me has been repeated because the hits on my Website shoot up by an amazing amount.  Only wish we got repeats but there's a one-off fee and then it's repeated ad infinitum.  Read this week that the BBC can't afford to repeat some of it's Series because the Actors' Royalties would cost too much.  Didn't know they had different treatment.  I've been informed that two Television Dramas in which I took part in Australia in the 60's are now being repeated.  Wonder if there'd be any chance of a repeat fee - Doubt it!  Hey Ho.

This is going to have to be short again. Have just written a piece for The Mail on Sunday about the Cathedral Assistant Guides course and that took several hours. Am way behind in my revision and having a tour round the Cathedral yesterday when our lovely tutor was helping us with revision, I realise how little has actually stuck in my memory. I’m really panicking now.

So, if you will excuse me until after the test, all I would like to do this week is share this beautiful photo of a magnolia.  I have to say that the blossom this Spring has been phenomenal - perhaps to do with the terrible winter.

I had a lot of trouble with Cameras last year. Just before going to Florence, my trusty Sony threw a little hissy fit. I didn’t want to go to Italy without a camera so reluctantly bought another one (the repair was going to be six weeks!!). The Nikon had a better zoom so I purchased it but never really liked it. It went wrong twice. You do get what you pay for and, as I don’t really like shopping on line unless I have no option, I’d rather pay a bit extra and get more personal service. This time it really paid off.

I’ve been dealing with Jessops in Canterbury for several years so they know my history with the cameras. The Sony came back very quickly and there was little wrong with it, so had I discovered the fault in time, would not have had to buy another camera.

Knowing all this and also that I was very unhappy with the Nikon – apparently the very first with which they’ve ever had any problems so Jenny, the Manageress suggested giving me a Credit Note and then waiting until they had in their new stock. Called in last week and they’d got the latest Sony – so new Jenny hadn’t even had time to play with it.  It's got an incredible 30 Zoom, HD Movie and you can shoot a panoramic picture just by panning - if I understood correctly.  Went to dinner with friends in Folkestone on Friday and the camera managed to pick out a boat in the haze which we couldn't see with the naked eye!!!  How about that.

It's a Sony Cyber shot and it really does have the Wow factor as well as my being used to it’s foibles.

I’ve promised myself that, when I get the Cathedral Course out of the way, I shall try and find a Photographic Society to join so that I can improve my photography.

But, I was really impressed with the Camera and this photo I took yesterday at a friend’s house.

A Bientot - Jan
