Me looking brave before taking to the air (and the wing) of the plane. Wow, it was cold !! But the whole experience was totally exhilarating.

Jan's Blog

Computers and the internet are amazing things. One of my concerns with putting together this site was that it could remain current, yet with all my travelling I've often much to say, but little time to say it. Years ago when reading the news it would take me days on end to reply to the kind letters people sent. Now, with the magic of the modern age, I can keep you up to date with what I'm doing and other events in my life.

Date: 6th January 2011

The programmes I mentioned back in October are going to be shown as from Monday 10th January through to Friday 14th at 5.00 pm on Channel 4.

I’ve just been asked to write 1000 words about the programme for the Mail on Sunday. Why do they always leave it till the last minute when they could have asked ages ago? Anyway, I’ve switched all my appointments and will deal with them tomorrow and have been sweating over a hot laptop.

Anyway I’ve managed to condense the experience into the wordage allowed and also to mention previous holidays as requested. Only hope they actually print the article. The last time I burned the midnight oil to reach a deadline, the article was printed two months later!!

I do hope you’ll tune in and enjoy. Although I was assured at interview that this was not a reality programme, it was slightly and one is at the mercy of the Editor who can make or break you. When I took part in ‘I’m a Celebrity, Get me out of here ……’ I was presented with a boxed set of the whole show – some 24 hours worth. I watched the first few and then gave up. In my opinion, they were so negatively edited but that appears to be what the public want. Isn’t life difficult enough without always showing the negative sides of everything. I was told – though can’t verify it – that our bunch were actually getting along quite well and that was not what the producers wanted.

Come Dine with me has been aired yet again (have lost count how many times it’s been shown and only wish we still lived in the days of royalties) and appears to have attracted a sizeable audience – that’s why I got so many hits on my website over Christmas. Many people who met me after CDWM was first aired declared that they enjoyed it so much because ‘we weren’t all bitching each other’. Mind you most of the folk who made the comment were over 45. Maybe the younger generation enjoy conflict. I certainly don’t and as I’ve got older I’d do almost anything for a quiet life. So why did I take part in Celebrity Five Go to …………. It was an adventure and I’m still up for that.

Life is now slowing down so I don’t think I’ll have nearly as much to write about on my Blogs and you certainly don’t want to know what I had for dinner last night – which seems to be the way Facebook operates. I’ve resisted the temptation so far. My son put me on it a couple of years ago and within hours I had all sorts of strangers wanting to be my friend, so I hastily took myself off it. I’m only on it now, under a pseudonym, in order to access my son’s Facebook entries re his travels. Funnily enough I get the occasional message telling me how to get ‘Friends’ and wondering why I’m not using the service.

So sorry there aren’t any photos posted with regard to my Australian adventure but, as I mentioned, the darned Nikon gave up the ghost and I can’t transfer my photos onto the Laptop. Hopefully, Paul who helps me with the computer and without whom I’d be lost, is coming round with a USB something or other and we might be able to load the photos. I’m spitting chips over the Nikon as I’ve had it less than six months – so that’s three cameras which have let me down in a short space of time – my Sony, the Nikon and the Waterproof camera I bought for my adventures on Lizard Island.

I’m almost biting my fingernails in anticipation of what they’ll do in the editing suite with regard to Celebrity Five ………. I did lose my cool with the other woman but whether or not they’ll show her being totally selfish and seemingly unaware of the needs of the rest of us, remains to be seen.

Ah well, what’s done is done and cannot be undone!

Bye for now,  Jan
