Jan's Blog

Computers and the internet are amazing things. One of my concerns with putting together this site was that it could remain current, yet with all my travelling I've often much to say, but little time to say it. Years ago when reading the news it would take me days on end to reply to the kind letters people sent. Now, with the magic of the modern age, I can keep you up to date with what I'm doing and other events in my life.

CORBYN - God help us if he becomes Prime Minister

Date: 3rd June 2017

I had intended writing some Blogs about the lovely country of Croatia which I recently visited but I've become so incensed at all the Rhetoric blasting out from our TV Screens and Newspapers that I felt I wouldn't sleep if I didn't get my feelings off my chest.

CORBYN -Gold help us if he should become our next Prime Minister

I became increasingly disappointed with Cameron and Theresa May is not showing herself as strong as one would like but God help us if Corbyn became Prime Minister.

He is a self confessed Commie - rubbed shoulders with the IRA, Hamas and Hezbollah and talks about talking to/reasoning with the megalomaniac/narcissist who runs North Korea.

Corbyn and his followers are fanatical socialists and in an ideal world perhaps their communist ideas would be wonderful. But we live in a world far from ideal and always human nature comes to the fore in the form of self interest, power and money.  Look at Russia and China where the Elite were looked after superbly but the peasant class in both countries, suffered appallingly under Communism and Maoism.

And then we come to all the rhetoric and what Corbyn and his ilk will do for the NHS, the poorer paid etc. And in Canterbury today there was a March in support of the NHS with many of the marchers chanting like school children. Of course we would all like to see perfection, and everyone having enough of everything BUT where is the money going to come from.

I’ve said it before and say it again- do so many members of the public truly believe that somehow successive governments have been sitting on reserves of gold/money trees which they are too mean to shake!!!!!! Where is all this wealth to come from.

Okay - it is true that many huge businesses get away with paying far too little tax because of Offshore deals and clever accountants - nevertheless the RICH do actually pay something like 60% of the tax which is collected. Soak them further and many will simply decant to countries and tax havens with more advantageous tax laws. The burden of the extra taxation will fall on the middle classes which it always does.

So PLEASE do not vote for Corbyn or any of the parties which promise so much but don’t tell you where they are going to get the money to pay for all the goodies.

The Conservatives are far from perfect but from where I’m standing it would seem that over the many decades through which I’ve lived, Labour come in and spend, spend, spend and leave the cupboard bare for when the Conservatives come back into power and are left with the messy business of ‘trying to balance the books’ like any responsible household has to do.  Sadly so many of the young idealists today did not live through the Winter of Discontent, nor did they experience the continuous ransom to which the country was held by the all too powerful unions.

And don’t forget that the NHS is now no longer able to cope with all the extra demands put upon it. Decades ago it existed to mend broken limbs and treat tuberculosis (once eradicated but now back on the scene!) We have wonderful and highly expensive Cancer treatments- many of these cancers are showing up  because people are living longer - in the past they'd have been long gone;  IVF for a nation which is already overpopulated:  transgender treatments etc. and so forth. It is not that I am unsympathetic but there are so many reasons the NHS is groaning under the weight of extra demands. Let us not forget Health Tourism either and too many Chiefs and not enough Indians in the shape of far too much Admin and not enough workers at the coalface as they say.

I don't know if Doctors have to sign any kind of contract to say they will give back several years of service in exchange for the highly expensive education and training they receive. I'm told it is around a million pounds to train a doctor!  Why do we see so many doctors and nurses going abroad and why do we have so many foreign medical staff here (often with very very poor English) when they should really be serving in their own countries.  We really do live in a cock-eyed world.

And I repeat what I’ve said before that according to ones income, I feel we should all have to pay something towards our treatment and leave the genuinely poor and disabled to be treated absolutely free of charge.

Loved this cartoon in the Daily Telegraph which I took out of the rack at Waitrose, Canterbury to read while I had a coffee.  It's what I've been saying for years.
