Jan's Blog

Computers and the internet are amazing things. One of my concerns with putting together this site was that it could remain current, yet with all my travelling I've often much to say, but little time to say it. Years ago when reading the news it would take me days on end to reply to the kind letters people sent. Now, with the magic of the modern age, I can keep you up to date with what I'm doing and other events in my life.

FRIENDS and a 100th Birthday Celebration

Date: 14th September 2016

This month I celebrate 50 years of knowing my best friend Sue.  We met at Granada TV in 1966 when I was engaged as a Newsreader (newly returned from Australia) and Sue was a Production Assistant.  We were both staying in Mrs Hoey's B & B and decided that we'd like to rent together.  We actually rented a little workman's cottage in Sale which was owned by a star of the early days of Coronation Street - Pat Phoenix who played Elsie Tanner.

And on 2nd September I was invited to celebrate the Centenary of another friend whom I have known almost as long as I've known Sue.  Cecily and I used to visit National Trust properties, meander round antique shops and have a great time together.  So it was wonderful to be invited by her family to be 'one of them' and join in her Birthday Tea.

My father died 4 months short of his 100th so I've never seen the Birthday Card from the Queen - here it is with Cecily's gorgeous cake (look at the fabulous sugarcraft).  She will shoot me for showing this photo but I had to grab shots where I could.  Cecily was an absolute stunner when young and I think she is still a beautiful woman at 100.
