Me looking brave before taking to the air (and the wing) of the plane. Wow, it was cold !! But the whole experience was totally exhilarating.

Jan's Blog

Computers and the internet are amazing things. One of my concerns with putting together this site was that it could remain current, yet with all my travelling I've often much to say, but little time to say it. Years ago when reading the news it would take me days on end to reply to the kind letters people sent. Now, with the magic of the modern age, I can keep you up to date with what I'm doing and other events in my life.

CAMERON AND LIBYA

Date: 13th September 2016

I know it is said that you shouldn't 'kick a dog when he's down' but the recent slamming of Cameron over Libya is totally justified in my opinion.

As with Blair who took us into the Gulf War - why do these people not have the modicom of common sense given to we mere mortals who long ago were despairing of the interventions.  Despite the fact that Gaddafi and Hussein were Dictators they did at least preserve some kind of order and both countries 'worked' - after the wars, chaos has reigned and look what is happening in the Middle East.  And look even further back to the long and bloody war in Afghanistan - the Russians didn't  succeed, nor did the Americans and their intervention did very little to ameliorate the problems.

When will Western Powers realise that 'One  cannot impose Western Democracy on Countries which live by entirely different sets of rules'. Is it the arrogance of believing that 'Our way is best' - maybe for us but not for countries with entirely different cultures and a different attitude to governance.

And, dare I say that arrogance extends to the way we are governed.  We in the UK are in a kind of Benign Dictatorship where the political class live in the 'Westminster Bubble' surrounded by panderers and sycophants and are so rarely in touch with we 'common folk'.  Look how wrong they got it over Brexit.  I don't think that vote was just about leaving Europe but more about people who were totally 'fed up' with their views and feelings being ignored by the majority of politicians.  I've always felt that most politicians go into Politics with altruistic motives but along the way they become 'corrupted' by Power.  What is the saying - Power corrupts and Absolute Power corrupts absolutely!

Blair and Cameron opened up Vipers' Nests and the civilised world is now paying for their ill conceived interventions.  Blair sailed off into the sunset and has capitalised financially on his 'power' and it looks as though Cameron will now do the same.  Blair as a Peace Envoy!!  I wouldn't pay two pence to hear him talk at any function.
