Me looking brave before taking to the air (and the wing) of the plane. Wow, it was cold !! But the whole experience was totally exhilarating.

Jan's Blog

Computers and the internet are amazing things. One of my concerns with putting together this site was that it could remain current, yet with all my travelling I've often much to say, but little time to say it. Years ago when reading the news it would take me days on end to reply to the kind letters people sent. Now, with the magic of the modern age, I can keep you up to date with what I'm doing and other events in my life.

Date: 10th April 2016

A lovely lady who connected with me through Twitter sent me a copy of her novel 'Dance with Fireflies'. I've enjoyed it immensely and much of it resonated with me because of my own Father having been born and brought up in India. I won't spoil it for you but will give you a taster.

Phyllis is an Anglo Indian enjoying a privileged life in India in the days of the Raj. She meets and falls in love with a British soldier and they return to the UK at the outbreak of WW2. He is posted abroad and Phyllis has to cope with two young children, the strangeness of life in England, the privations of living in wartime, very unsympathetic in-laws, and none of the servants which she'd had in India. She also has to contend with a certain amount of racial disharmony.

There were times when I would have been on the edge of my seat with tension, had I not been reading in bed! It was one of those books where you don't want it to end and I wonder if Jane will write a sequel. Dance with Fireflies - Jane Gill. ISBN 9781507880371
