Me looking brave before taking to the air (and the wing) of the plane. Wow, it was cold !! But the whole experience was totally exhilarating.

Jan's Blog

Computers and the internet are amazing things. One of my concerns with putting together this site was that it could remain current, yet with all my travelling I've often much to say, but little time to say it. Years ago when reading the news it would take me days on end to reply to the kind letters people sent. Now, with the magic of the modern age, I can keep you up to date with what I'm doing and other events in my life.

Date: 8th June 2015

I attended a 50th Wedding Anniversary Celebration at Donnington Lodge. Setting  the postcode accurately , of course SatNav took me way past the Lodge to nearby Donnington Castle which is little more than a ruined turret but particularly interesting Although it was built after the death of the Black Prince, it was built in 1380 by Sir Richard de Abberbury who had been in service to the Prince. I was in my finery and wasn’t dressed for climbing up the dusty hill to take a look but I did have my camera with me so here it is.

The party was highly enjoyable and it was lovely to be surrounded by around 30 couples who’d known the Happy Pair for most of their married lives. Unfortunately if you’ve moved around as I have – usually in pursuit of work – although you pick up friends along the way you discover when you are older that they live miles away and as we all age they aren’t up to driving long distances – so I could never have a party similar to my friends. Still, life is swings and roundabouts isn’t it and there’s not too much I’d change about my life. You can’t have it all.

Donnington Lodge did us proud. It was a gorgeous sunny day and the food had been barbecued and laid out as a buffet. It was an unusual ‘feast’ but delicious.

I’d had two consecutive weekends where a 3 hour journey took me over 5 so I held my breath when setting out from home yet again down the dreaded M.25. Lady luck smiled on me and the journey was without incident and being so close to my sister I headed over to her for the evening which made a good ending to a lovely day.
